Having Dr Shankar and the team operate on my 3 weeks old son was the best decision of my life. My son was born with Congenital heart defect - Ventricular septal defect, a large hole in his heart. I am so thankful for Dr Shankar’s and the team (Sister Manjit) for their professionalism and calm demeanor. Pre-surgery, Sister Manjit explained thoroughly to me on the procedures and what to expect before, during and after the surgery. Stating in details also the bills that we will be expecting so that we can prepare financially.
During surgery, Sister Manjit updated us constantly on Wilkin’s condition. I got updates from her every now and then throughout the 4 hours long surgery. From starting to make an incision to my son’s chest, to patching the hole, finally closing the hole and sternal precautions and out of operating theatre and back to ICU for close monitoring. After the surgery, Dr Shankar visited my son every now and then, even on late nights and weekends to check on his conditions and making sure he’s fine.
After a week long in the hospital, to be able to go home after a open heart surgery is so surreal. We had our weekly and bi-weekly and monthly checkups with Dr Shankar and it’s always good to hear the same prognosis. My son is a different baby after the surgery. He’s thriving, breathing well, drinking more milk and gaining weight. The murmur in his heart is completely gone.
We are eternally grateful to Dr Shankar for mending his heart and saving his life.

"Megan was diagnosed with Loeys Dietz Syndrome (LDS) at age 7 and Dr Shankar has been treating her for over 10 years now.  When she was first diagnosed with LDS, there was a lot of fear and helplessness but it was not too long before we found hope with Dr Shankar.  He spent hours explaining Megan’s condition, the treatment for it and gave us strength to fight the disease.  Megan underwent her first heart operation at age 7 in 2010.  It was a long operation, very stressful but I felt safe at the same time as I know Dr Shankar will treat Megan to the best of his ability. 10 years on in 2021, Megan needed another operation to fix her aortic arch.  The surgery went well but she became unwell a few days later due to the nature of the condition and there was a need to have another operation almost immediately.  I was devastated but I understood the condition and I know I have a very competent and kind doctor with us.  The next operation went well and Megan was able to recover uneventfully under Dr Shankar’s care and she is a happy girl now.
We can never thank him enough for all that he has done for us.  He is and will always be more than a
doctor to us.  Having Dr Shankar treat Megan is our greatest blessing.

Ms Manjit has been very patient and helpful in providing the different plans in preparation of Evan's surgery. The administrative process was taken care of and clearly explained to us showing she understood what we were going through and clear our doubts.
On the day of Evan's surgery, Ms Manjit texted us and kept us posted on the progress of surgery. She called to informed at the end of surgery and that Dr Shankar will be speaking to us soon.
Post surgery, Ms Manjit has been making Evan comfortable by talking to him whenever he went back for check up. As Evan was afraid of touching the stitches, she managed to cajole him and removed it swiftly.

I have been a Medical Doctor for over 39 years . I initially trained extensively in General, Hepato-biliary and Vascular surgery. I then choose to train in Cardio-thoracic surgery. After extensive training in adult cardio-thoracic surgery I also undertook specialised training in heart surgery for Children. I have now been a Cardio-Thoracic surgeon for 34 years . As my experience increased over the last 10 years I have been able to develop Less invasive surgical procedures for a number of conditions for both adults and children. I have worked as a senior Consultant in Singapore General Hospital. In 1997 I helped establish heart surgery for children at KK Womens and Childrens Hospital.

Dr. Bhavani Sriram

Dr Bhavani is a medical doctor for over 38 years and a is a trained Neonatologist and Paediatric specialist. After completing basic medical training she trained in pediatrics and Neonatology . In addition to her neonatal duties she established a clinic for people with Down's Syndrome at KK Women's and Childrens Hospital. She has over the last 5 years established a clinic in MINDS Singapore for persons with intellectual disability.

Adult Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Dr. Lee was Clinical Lead Surgeon and Programme Director for the Endoscopic Harvest of Long Saphenous Vein (EVH) programme, as part of the departmental approach to Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Lee also expanded the programme to include Endoscopic Harvest of Radial Artery and Endoscopic Harvest of Sural Nerve. He established the expanded clinical programme for EVH as a clinical service, including ongoing surveillance, training and standards.

Ms Manjit Kaur graduated in Nursing in Singapore. She has over 28 years experience in caring for patients with cardiovascular dieases. She has been Pivotal in managing patients including children with heart disease. She is well versed with conditions we treat and will offer both nursing and financial counselling to all patients. Ms kaur is a multilinguist and who helps support patients both in and out of hospital.
